More Hats and Novelty Bibs

I made a few more things for the baby shower for Joey's teacher.  I have already given her a hat, sweater, and frog toy, and I have the cuddly pal blankie for her, which I already showed before.  I just get carried away with baby things.  I love to make them.  I decided to make some hats and some of my novelty bibs.  They are so easy to do, and I love them.  I couldn't decide which material I liked best, so I just used all my choices for the hats.  I intended on only making two or three, but I liked all these materials, so I made six.

The bug and crocodile bibs.

A bear and a blue turtle.

These hats are all made of flannel, except the middle one. It is stretchy knit.

All the blue hats are flannel.

I also was able to get a model for the robes that I converted.  Here is Isamu helping me out.

Rocky style boxing robe from front with hood up.

I had to convert twenty robes.  It was quite a project, and after finishing about fifteen of them, I finally had an easy way to attach the red yoke part that covered the white yokes of the graduation gowns.  It was hard to get the inside liner part lined up with the top side so that both sides were caught in the stitching.  I was finally in a good groove by the time I had finished all of them.  The hood that I made for the first gown was a little too pointed and looked like a Klu Klux Klan robe.  I had to round them off a bit to make them look more like a boxer robe.  I was able to utilize material from another robe to make the additions to the converted robe.  I did it in such a way that I was able to use things that were already hemmed. I used the hem of the sleeves to make the yokes along the back side to divide the yoke so that some was red and some was white.  I used the hems along the place where I took out the zippers to make the belts.  I used the hems along the bottom of the gown to make the hem of the hood and the belt loops.  It made it so that I had a lot of left over material, but it sure simplified the sewing project and made it possible for me to complete all of them in much less time.

Cuddly Pal Blanket

I decided to do a quick afternoon project to give as a gift at the baby shower for Joey's teacher.  I have made a few things and given them to her already, but I thought this would be cute for Joey to give to her.  I think these soft little blankies with a cuddly little pal perched on top are really cute.  I have made about three of them already, and I really adore them.  I planned to make this one out of a brown paw print material with a tan bear, but I didn't have any binding that matched, so I switched to the blue, since the baby is a boy.

I think this one came out better than my others.  I was able to get things lined up more evenly. It made it easier to do.

Nightgown Dismay

One of the nightgowns that I made for my granddaughters was a mishap.  The flannel was very soft, and I thought it would make a nice nightgown.  The problem was that the material kept falling apart at the seams and at the neck edge. It simply frayed apart.  Dot was so unhappy so I told her I would make her another one.  They don't take much time at all.  She wanted the doggie material.  I didn't think I had enough because that is what I used for Portia's. However, since I made the yoke and sleeves of Portia's out of pink, and since Portia's was smaller anyway, I was able to have enough material to make one for Dot out of the material she wanted.  I still needed to make the yoke pink and I cut out one of the doggies and appliqued it to the pink yoke.  I had just enough material and I think it came out really cute.

The new nightgown.

The first nightgown which she could only wear about once.

This shows how the material frayed at the neck edge.  This is also what it did at the seams.
As a side project, I have been working on the afghan for Keeping America Warm.  I need to knit 49 squares and I have finished about 30 of them.  Hope I get this thing done in time for this winter.  If not, then it will be for next winter.  Either way, I will still ship it off to the organization if they are still doing it.  I started this project last year and I haven't checked to see if they are still doing it.  If not, then I will have a nice gift for someone.

Nightgowns and Jammies

I just decided to make some nightgowns for my little girls.  Portia only wears nightgowns, and it seemed like she only had one when I was visiting just after Christmas.  Since I was making a couple for her, I decided I should make some for the other little girls around here.  Joey also wanted pajamas out of the material that I had used to make pajama bottoms for Ellis at Christmas time.  Here are the little ones in their new sleep clothes, except for Portia.  I will not be able to get them to her yet.

L to R: Dot, Joey, Lucy, Lexi

Above and below: Portia's without the model.

I also have finished another sewing project which I will show later.  I want to wait to get pictures with a model.  My son, Marty, asked me to convert graduation robes into Rocky style robes for a production that his high school is doing.  I had to cover the white yokes with red, add a hood, belt and belt loops.  I had to make twenty robes.  I started cutting out the pieces on Sunday and was able to get them all sewed by today.  Not bad, but I am glad they are finished.
